USA - TENNESSEE - NASHVILLE : MUSIC CITY USA

You may want to give thought to renting a convertible when next you're in Nashville on a Saturday night during the spring and take a tour of the downtown honky tonks such as the world-famous Tootsie’s, Legend’s Corner and Robert’s Western Wear.

In between stops you can take in the Nashville city lights and listen to the Grand Ole Opry radio show, the nation’s longest continuously-running, live radio program.

And you can take center stage at the Grand Ole Opry. You don’t have to be a star to stand in the historic circle on the Opry stage. As part of a tour, visitors can stand in what is known as “the circle", a wood circle cut from the floor of the original Ryman Auditorium stage and placed on the stage. Stand on the same planks where legends and today’s current superstars perform. Take a place in history with Hank Williams Jr., Patsy Cline, Minnie Pearl, and many more.

Country music came out of the East Tennessee hills, and early recordings in Bristol led to the worldwide phenomenon of Nashville. Today Nashville celebrates its deep musical roots at more than 10 music festivals held annually in Music City.

Tin Pan South, named for the famous Tin Pan Alley in New York City, celebrates songwriters and their craft. The CMA Music Festival, previously known as Fan Fair, draws more than 100,000 music fans worldwide to Music City. River Stages rocks Riverfront Park as this 3-day music festival combines artists and genres from many musical backgrounds. Music City Jazz & Heritage Festival combines local and national jazz and blues talent for one spectacular Labor Day weekend.

Donning the name, Music City USA, Nashville has become one of the leading music recording cities in the country. You can take a drive down Music Row in that convertible and see where deals are made in the recording industry. Stop at RCA Studio B, where renowned musicians like Elvis Presley and the Everly Brothers made music history. Stop by the famous Bluebird café where songwriters and musicians perform nightly. Artists like Faith Hill and Garth Brooks got their starts at the Bluebird café.

Music is only half the fun in Nashville. It boasts many cultural attractions such as the Frist Center for the Visual Arts which presents the finest visual art from local, state and regional artists, as well as major US and international exhibitions. The Nashville Opera, as well as the Nashville Symphony perform year round.

The history and heritage of the African-American in Nashville is represented at many art galleries, plantation homes as well as African-American influences chronicled through food, exhibits, music and culture.

Nashville offers something for the whole family: The Adventure Science Museum, the Nashville Zoo at Grassmere, Art Quest at the Frist Center for the Visual Arts and the Valley Fair Amusement Park are just a few places with family friendly activities.

Wear a pair of walking shoes and take a stroll into Nashville's past to explore the many historical sites the city offers like Belle Meade Plantation and Fort Nashborough. Fort Negley tells the surreal and fascinating story of freed African-Americans constructing a union fort on a hill overlooking downtown Nashville.

The Bicentennial Mall is a stopping point for history buffs. The 19-acre park is designed to complement the Tennessee Capitol Building and give visitors a taste of Tennessee's history and natural wonder, as well as serving as a lasting monument to Tennessee's Bicentennial celebration.
