USA - FLORIDA : DINOSAURS ROAM FLORIDA

Where can you sift through sand in search of authentic fossils, work on uncovering a life-size dinosaur skeleton just as paleontologists do, see over 150 life-size dinosaurs and experience one of Florida’s top ten unique experiences all at once? Dinosaur World in Plant City, Florida offers several exciting exhibits all in one fascinating park.
Dinosaur World is easily identifiable with their over 150 life-size dinosaurs, beginning with the forty foot Tyrannosaurus Rex seen from Interstate 4. Each of the dinosaurs are set outdoors in a native Florida forest. This park is a type of outdoor dinosaur museum with natural looking rock plaques full of information on each of the dinosaurs. Both the trail and most of the park have paved pathways, so it is mostly handicap accessible and is suitable for seniors, wheelchairs or strollers.
Perhaps the most memorable exhibit in the park is the Fossil Dig. This is a giant. glorified sand box made into a paleontologist dig setting where children sift through the sand in search of authentic fossils. This is a guided activity and the children actually do some learning while having fun. A park employee identifies children’s fossils and tells a bit about them. The Fossil Dig is loaded with shark teeth, sea urchins, dinosaur bone chips, ammonite and more. The children are then allowed to pick three of their favorite fossils they found to keep as a memento of their experience.
Another interactive exhibit at the park is the Boneyard. This exhibit has a very impressive simulated rock cave entrance where visitors can work in the sand to uncover a life-size Stegosaurus skeleton.
The indoor Prehistoric Museum houses displays such as authentic dinosaur eggs and other dinosaur bones. Touch and tell exhibits and giant jig saw puzzles also contribute to the interactive environment of the park.
The Caves exhibit houses a ”movie cave” showing short educational films on dinosaurs. There is also a display showing how the dinosaurs are made. A subterranean picnic area completes the cave exhibit.
Dinosaur World carries its theme throughout the park including the gift shop with dinosaur treasures on every aisle. The playground and the various picnic areas throughout the park also carry a prehistoric theme. There are even dinosaurs in the bathrooms.
In November of 2005,dinosaur World was named one of Florida’s top ten unique experiences by
“Visit Florida”, the state’s official travel organization. There are plenty of original experiences to be found in the Sunshine State, including breathtaking beaches and unsurpassed theme parks. “Visit Florida” picked Dinosaur World as one of their ten unique experiences as a guide to some unexpected dare-to-be-different experiences.
Dinosaur World admission price and location also make this an attractive experience. The park prides itself on it’s affordability. The accessibility of being located right off the major Interstate of I-4 on Exit l7, just 20 minutes from Tampa and one hour from Orlando makes this an easy trip.
