Travel Information for Michigan Hotel Guests

If you are searching for an inn, hotel, motel or resort near a Michigan attraction, amusement and theme parks, or close to shopping, cultural events, historic sites, museums and performing arts centers, or nearby zoos, a festival, a golf course, a Michigan state park, this is where you will find it.

MICHIGAN is awash with a variety of natural, man-made, and cultural offerings including aquariums, zoos, museums, galleries, lighthouses, waterfalls, natural rock formations, and wineries. It has a year-round collection of festivals and measures its great outdoors in these numbers: more than 3,200 miles of shoreline, 11,000 inland lakes, 5,600 miles of snowmobile trails, dozens of downhill ski resorts, four national parks, and more than 1,000 golf courses.

As it is home to Kellogg's, a family attraction like Cereal City USA should not be totally unexpected in BATTLE CREEK; Binder Park Zoo is also here. Located in the upper part of Lake Michigan, about 30 miles due north of Charlevoix, BEAVER ISLAND is one of the most remote inhabited islands in the Great Lakes and a travel destination of interesting wilderness characteristics.

BOYNE COUNTRY represents Petoskey, Harbor Springs, Boyne Falls, Boyne CIty, Conway and Wallon Lake areas of northwest lower Michigan where visitors can hunt for Michigan's state stone, the Petoskey Stone – chunks of fossilized coral thought to be 350 million years old; best hunting places are the beaches at Petoskey State Park and Magnus City Park.

CRYSTAL FALLS are more than 150 waterfalls across the Western Upper Peninsula, among them Bewabic State Park.

DETROIT has many outstanding attractions and venues that are "uniquely" Detroit' like the Motown Historical Museum which is located in the original birthplace of the Motown Sound and Motown Record Corporation, “Hitsville USA”, among the city’s magnets are the Museum of African American History, the Gospel Music Hall of Fame & Museum, and The Detroit Institute of Arts, the fifth-largest fine arts museum in the country.

At DEARBORN the Henry Ford Museum & Greenfield Village, American’s largest indoor/outdoor museum, celebrates the spirit of invention; the 80 historic buildings at Greenfield Village includes the homes and workplace of Thomas Edison, Henry Ford, George Washington Carver and the Wright Brothers. Detroit’s rich automotive heritage is reflected in several attractions, among them the Automotive Hall of Fame in Dearborn, the Motorsports Museum & Hall of Fame in Novi, and the Walter P. Chrysler Museum in Auburn Hills.

The 125-acre Detroit Zoological Park at ROYAL OAK includes a dinosaur and native and exotic animal exhibits, the Michigan International Speedway is at JACKSON, and the Rolling Hills Family Water Park at YPSILANTI.

Between ESCANABA Escanaba and MANISTIQUE is Fayette Historic Townsite in Fayette Historic State Park which includes a visitor center, exhibits, a 26-station walking tour and a scale model of the original townsite.

Located in East Central Michigan the major attraction in FLINT is Crossroads Village and Huckleberry Railroad which provides visitors with the sights and sounds of life in the 1800s.

The downtown centerpiece in GRAND RAPIDS in West Central Michigan is the Frederik Meijer Gardens with a 24ft. bronze statue of Leonardo da Vinci's horse.; the Heritage Hill Historic District embraces over 50 different architectural styles; at the Gerald R Ford Museum visitors can attend a White House State Dinner, and the Public Museum of Grand Rapids - Van Andel Museum Center is an entertainment/education center.

HOLLAND is the largest Dutch community outside of Europe; the Netherlands comes alive at the Dutch Village Theme Park and its Windmill Island has cobblestone sidewalks, tulip-lined streets, wooden shoe factories and a 275 year-old "DeZwaan" windmill.

Located in Southwestern Michigan, KALAMAZOO’s main attraction is Air Zoo where there are aircraft ranging from a replica of the Wright Flyer to the F-14 fighter.

LANSING, the Capital of Michigan, has some interesting museums including the Nokomis Learning Center in Okemos, which preserves the art forms, history, and heritage of the Great Lakes American Indians, and the Oldsmobile/GM Heritage Center, as well as the MSU Museum.

MACKINAW CITY is home to a variety of shopping and recreational activities like the Great Lakes Teddy Bear Company where visitors can build their own bear, the Mackinaw Crossings (CourtYards of Mackinaw), a Victorian-style theme park, and Mackinaw Trolley Company for tours of lighthouses, ships and shipwrecks.

MACKINAC ISLAND is a picturesque summer resort still steeped in the 19th century and where the automobile has yet to intrude; Michigan history is resurrected and preserved in Mackinac State Historic Park at a string of three settlements: Colonial Michilimackinac, Fort Mackinac, and Historic Mill Creek which was established in 1790 as the first industrial settlement providing finished lumber to neighboring Mackinac Island.

Located in the Upper Peninsula region, MARQUETTE is home to the Marquette Mission Park and Museum of Ojibwa Culture, St. Ignace where visitors can learn about the Ojibwa Indians; the Isle Royale National park at Keweenaw, one of America's few island national parks, has over 165 miles of trails, and Keweenaw Underwater Preserve is host to a variety of historic shipwrecks.

MARSHALL is a storehouse of 19th century American small-town architecture.

PARADISE is the closest point to Tahquamenon Falls State Park. Nearby, at Whitefish Point, the Great Lakes Shipwreck Museum explores the haunting world of Lake Superior shipwrecks. Another gateway to Tahquamenon Falls is NEWBERRY where visitors can take the ToonervilleTrolley Train and Boat Tours to the Falls.

The Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore scenic area with its multi-colored sandstone cliffs, beaches, sand dunes, waterfall, inland lakes, streams, forests and wildlife is near MUNISING in the Upper Peninsula.

Attractions in SAGINAW include the formal gardens of the Saginaw Art Museum, the Castle Museum of Saginaw County History, the Temple of Theater and the work of sculptor Marshall M. Fredericks in the Arbury Fine Arts Center at Saginaw Valley State University. Shiawassee National Wildlife Refuge, Michigan’s version of the Everglades, is nearby, and to the southeast is Michigan’s Little Bavaria, FRANKENMUTH which holds close to its German heritage and plays host to over 3-million visitors a year.

At SAULT SAINTE MARIE visitors can tour the Steamship Valley Camp and Tower of History with Le Sault de Sainte Marie Historical Sites to see the craftsmanship of early shipbuilders and pioneers and watch ocean-going freighters pass through the historic Soo Locks, the world's longest locks.

Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore at EMPIRE consists of over 30 miles of Lake Michigan shoreline plus the two Manitou Islands.

Visitors can celebrate the National Cherry Festival in TRAVERSE CITY in NorthWest Michigan in July; just outside the city is the Interlochen Center for the Arts, a nationally-renowned 1,200-acre music and arts mecca.
