The popular summer resort town BAR HARBOR is home to Acadia National Park, Maine's only national park which offers coastal views from most of its hiking trails; the Atlantic Brewing Company offers daily tours and tastings, Mount Desert Oceanarium/The Lobster Hatchery is that part of the Mt. The gardens at the Hummingbird Farm in LYMAN are designed to attract hummingbirds as well as butterflies and other birds; Millenocket is an outdoor recreation center and gateway to Baxter State Park, Maine’s largest state park.

The NEWFIELD WILLOWBROOK Museum is a 19th century country village museum with 37 buildings, 10,000 artifacts and over 65 carriages.

The Transportation Museum OWLS HEAD has a collection of World War I era aircraft, automobiles, motorcycles, bicycles and carriages. Maine's lumbering history is captured in PATTEN by more than 3500 artifacts in nine buildings at the Lumberman's Museum.

PEMAQUID POINT is the site of a much-photographed lighthouse and Colonial Pemaquid (Ft. William Henry) where archaeological excavations have unearthed the foundations of two forts.

Maine's largest metropolitan area, PORTLAND, is a diverse city situated on a peninsula jutting out into Casco Bay; two interesting homes are Victoria Mansion, an historic house with a collection of the High Victorian period, and Wadsworth-Longfellow House (1785), the poet’s boyhood home; Portland has three forts, including Fort Williams, home to the 1791 Portland Head Light; other attractions are Maine Narrow Gauge Railroad & Museum, and Portland Harbor Museum.
