Kootenai National Wildlife Refuge is a sanctuary for migratory birds at BONNERS FERRY. City of Rocks National Reserve is located amidst the mountain peaks of the Albion Mountain Range; many people see animals, faces, or buildings in the 2.5-billion years old granitic rock formations; the Visitor Center is located in ALMO. Nestled among tall pines on the shores of the lake is COEUR D'ALENE; attractions include Silverwood Theme Park and the nearby Cataldo Mission of the Sacred Heart which was built entirely without nails in 1853.

GRANGEVILLE is the gateway to five wilderness areas and four national forests totaling over 5-million acres, second only to Alaska in designated wilderness area.

At HAGERMAN over 200 individual "Hagerman Horses" (most closely related to the modern zebra) were recovered at the Hagerman Fossil Beds National Monument; Hagerman Valley lies in part of the Snake River Canyon, best known for the "1000 Springs" that pour out of the canyon walls.

HELLS CANYON is the deepest river gorge (7,900 feet) in North America; in some places, the canyon walls plunge more than a mile deep.

The Bonneville Museum at IDAHO FALLS offers permanent exhibits depicting local historical events of pioneer life.

KELLOG is the center of the Coeur d'Alene mining district, which in recent years has adopted the name "Silver Valley." It is the nation's leading producer of silver and covers an area of about 300 square miles.

LAVA HOT SPRINGS is a resort town with hot springs and Olympic Swimming Complex.

LEWISTON is where the explorers Lewis and Clark camped in 1805 and again in 1806; the city is an inland seaport where ships are loaded for a 465-mile trip down the Snake and Columbia Rivers to the Pacific; it is the gateway to Hells Canyon.

In Massacre RockS State Park at AMERICAN FALLS “Gate of Death” and “Devil's Gate” were names given to this narrow break in the rocks during the Oregon Trail period when emigrants feared that Indians might be waiting in ambush. Ponderosa State Park is located 1.5 miles east of McCALL; it covers most of a l,000-acre peninsula that juts out into Payette Lake.

MOSCOW is a town of gothic spires and golden fields, home to the University of Idaho and the Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival, the largest jazz concert in the Northwest, and to the Appaloosa Horse Club and Museum which features the history of the Appaloosa horse, noted for its spotted markings.

The Fort Hall Replica in POCATELLO was built from the original Hudson Bay Company plans. Ponderosa State Park has wildflowers, wildlife, beaches and boat ramps.

The Sand Dunes of St. ANTHONY consist of more than 11,000 acres of clear, shifting, white quartz sand dunes up to 400 feet high that move about eight feet each year. SILVER CITY was once a mining mecca, today 75 structures remain in the Historical Area including the antique-filled Idaho Hotel (1866) and the Post Office-Drugstore.

SILVER MOUNTAIN is a year round outdoor playground at Kellogg, named by Ski Magazine as "One of Skiings Biggest Secrets." The Snake River Birds of Prey Area is home to North America's densest population of nesting raptors and covers 483,000 acres along 80 miles of the Snake River.

At SPALDING the visitor center at the Nez Perce National Historic Park offers interpretive exhibits and audio-visual programs of the history of the Nez Perce people.

STANLEY is the gateway to the the Sawtooth National Forest, the Sawtooth Wilderness, and the Frank Church "River of No Return" Wilderness.
